In March 2023, our Education Manager travelled to Grasmere Primary School to deliver some exciting Outreach Workshops that enabled KS1 pupils to experience Benjamin Franklin House from their classrooms.

The pupils learned all about Benjamin Franklin, from his humble beginnings in Boston to becoming one of the most significant figures of the 18th century. We then explored another famous figure that also lived at 36 Craven Street – the anatomist, William Hewson.

We learned about the bones that were discovered underneath Benjamin Franklin House and their connection to the secret anatomy school operated by William Hewson at the House in the 1770s.

Following the presentation from our Education Manager, each class was then given some materials to create their very own skeletons using a lot of glue and even more cotton buds!

All classes produced some outstanding work and used their creativity to put together some excellent skeletons.

Our Education Manager had a hard time picking some of his favourite Houses, but the gallery below is full of some wonderful House highlights.
