In May 2023, our Education Manager travelled to Hallfield Primary School to deliver some exciting Outreach Workshops that enabled KS1 pupils to experience Benjamin Franklin House from their classrooms.
The pupils learned all about Benjamin Franklin, from his humble beginnings in Boston to becoming one of the most significant figures of the 18th century. Each class was treated to a virtual tour of 36 Craven Street via our fantastic Virtual Georgian Interior, which gave pupils an opportunity to discover how each room could have looked over 250 years ago. We learned all about daily life in Georgian London and identified how things have changed since Franklin was alive.
Following the presentation from our Education Manager, each class was then given a blank template of Benjamin Franklin House to furnish with their very own, hand-drawn furniture. This exercise proved an excellent way to test understanding of the period as each pupil was tasked with recreating an 18th century townhouse that did not include any electrical appliances or bathrooms!
Imaginations ran wild, but all classes produced some outstanding work. Despite some protests about the lack of TV’s in their homes, all of the classes were able to draw their ideal 18th century house, complete with some stellar colouring.
Our Education Manager had a hard time picking some of his favourite Houses, but the gallery below is full of some wonderful House highlights.
