Cryptograms


Number 1
A cryptogram is a phrase or quote that has been encrypted -converted into code- by simple substitution. Here the phrase "This is a cryptogram" has number associated with letters. In this cryptogram you can see that throughout the phrase the letter "T" has been replaced by the number 2, the letter "A" has been substituted with 1, the letter “S” with 5, and so on. Try it!

Here, the phrase THIS IS A CRYPTOGRAM has numbers associated with the letters. You solve the cryptogram by guessing the letters that have been replaced. After you work on cryptograms for a while you learn to see patterns of common words - practice makes perfect! Here are a few tips to get you started:

 

 

 


·         The most common words with only one letter are "A" and "I"


·         The word "THE" is the most common three letter word.


·         All words have at least one vowel.
